On Sunday, 11th April 2010, thirteen druzhynyky and 1 senjor got together at the Penrith Whitewater Rafting Stadium.
Everyone arrived with keen and eager faces to make the water look foolish. Upon putting on safety vests and helmets, the crew was briefed and ready to hit the water! The course they were destined to challenge is a combination of man-made and natural materials, to create the characteristics of a natural white water river.
The first dip of the rapids already had a few people out of their rafts and into the water. After finally swimming to shore and climbing back into the rafts, the participants continued on their venture to make it to the end of the U-shape obstacle course, where a conveyor belt waited to carry their rafts again for another run on the rapids. Within a few laps, we cym’ivsti were working with each other and completing the course, lap after lap, with major improvements in their maneuverability and strategic approach on how to concur, the once intimidating and now tame rapids of Penrith Whitewater Rafting Stadium.
Some participants came out with minor battle scars, such as scrapped knees and elbows from their falls in the water however all agreed it was an enjoyable and memorable event. There is already talk amongst the druzhynyky, on when they will attack the rapids of Penrith Whitewater Rafting Stadium again!
