ISKRA School of Ukrainian Dance
School of Ukrainian Dance
The Dmytro Vitovskyj branch of CYM has a long history of sponsoring Ukrainian dance groups but it wasn’t
until the year 2002 that the Iskra School of Ukrainian Dance was officially formed. The dance school has grown
to more than 115 students and a dedicated staff of 5 instructors. Parents participate by volunteering to design,
sew and organize all the beautiful costumes. Every year Iskra stages an end of the year concert where every
dancer from the youngest to oldest has an opportunity to shine. In addition Iskra has had the honor of performing
at the Illinois Governor’s Mansion and at McCormick Place during Rotary International’s Centennial Convention
in 2005. The dance school performs at Winter Wonderfest at Navy Pier, Christmas Around the World at the Museum
of Science and Industry, and at various ethnic festivals.
